Complimentary Painting, Fall 2021
Made with Acrylic Paint
This is a painting that I made of Fall Run Park in Complementary Colors for my Painting 1 class at CCAC. This is one of my artworks that I’ve shown outside of college at the Shaler North Hills Library back in 2021.
For the complementary colors, I decided to use blue and orange. It may be an odd choice of colors, but I wanted to go in a different direction while painting from a photographic reference that I took while visiting the area. I have drawn realistic drawings in the past, but my painting skills were not the best previously. But I have taken classes at a now defunct art studio called “Art Cabana” where I learned to become better at painting.
For this painting, acrylic paint was used after sketching the landscape to my canvas. I started with blue first, and then orange second. Then I used black and white paint to mix with the other colors to create different hues for shading. It was to make the artwork have the colors not only stand out to the user’s eye, but also to create details just like the photograph reference with the waterfall, leaves, wooden posts, trees, and others.
